SURGICAL TREATMENTS

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in humans. Basal cell carcinomas are rarely fatal, but have the potential to invade other tissues and result in serious physical deformations and cosmetic abnormalities. Squamous cell carcinomas manifest similarly to basal cell carcinomas, but are often times more aggressive and tend to ulcerate. They can develop from untreated areas of actinic keratosis, areas of scaly, thick patches of skin. Most often these lesions appear on areas frequently exposed to sunlight. Melanoma is a less common form of skin cancer but also one of the most fatal types of cancer. It is caused by an overproliferation of melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin pigmentation, and is highly prone to metastasis. Dr. Goldenberg is an expert in early diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers and precancerous lesions.

If you have a new growth, a rapidly growing or changing growth or mole, contact Dr. Goldenberg immediately — early detection and treatment is very important. If Dr. Goldenberg believes that the lesion is a form of cancer, a biopsy will be performed. In case the results indicate this growth needs to be treated, the next step is to surgically treat the affected area. Depending on the size, location and type of skin cancer, a variety of approaches may be taken.

Dr. Goldenberg specializes in surgical treatment of skin cancers and precancerous lesions.
