Full lips have always been considered beautiful on women. Long before lip fillers were available, celebrities like Marylin Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor made naturally luscious, pouty lips part of the “ideal” feminine look.
Now, thanks to modern aesthetic developments, all women – even those with thinner lips due to genetics or aging – can have full, sexy lips. There are currently several popular and effective, FDA approved lip filler treatments on the market. But with so many choices, how do you know which lip filler is right for you?

Which Lip Filler Plumps Lips the Most?
Both Restylane and Juvéderm are hyaluronic acid-based lip fillers. And both brands come in a variety of different “formulas”. When it comes to choosing the formula that is best for your aesthetic goals, keep in mind that (no matter which brand) the thicker the formula, the more dramatic the results – and the longer the results will last.
But the flip side to that consideration, is that the thicker the formula, the less soft and flexible the injected area will be.
Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella are thinner gels – so they are both designed to provide more subtle enhancement to the lips, without adding dramatic volume. They can be ideal for restoring lips that have thinned a bit due to age, back to their previous size and proportions. But they will not give you a “Kylie Jenner” pout.
Restylane Silk and Juvéderm Volbella are also excellent for use in creating better, natural-looking proportions in lips that may be asymmetrical or out of balance. Both of these formulas are also ideal for treating fine vertical lines (“smokers’ lines”) that have developed around the lips.
Juvéderm Ultra XC and Ultra Plus XC are formulas that are much thicker than Silk or Vollbella – and therefore provide much more obvious volume. For many years the Kardashian/Jenner sisters have famously relied on Juvéderm Ultra XC for their conspicuous, “pillowy” lips.
However, Restylane recently entered the market with its own formula of high-volume lip filler called “Kysse”. This formula is manufactured using “XpresHAn Technology™” that offers a thick gel which is also designed to maintain flexible movement, for a full range of natural expressions.
While this gives Restylane Kysse a slight advantage over Juvéderm Ultra XC, Juvéderm still has the slight advantage when it comes to longevity.
Which Lip Filler Lasts Longer?
One of the more notable differences between Restylane and Juvéderm lip filler formulas is how long the results typically last.
Comparing “apples to apples”: Restylane Silk typically only lasts three to six months, while Juvéderm Volbella results generally last from six months to a year when used in the lip area (and even longer when applied in other areas of the face).
Restylane Kysse, however, levels the playing field a bit as it is one of the longest-lasting lip filler options available. In some patients Kysse results can last for up to 12 months – which is about the same as Juvéderm Ultra XC.
However, keep in mind that the lasting power of every patient’s lip injections will vary – depending on a variety of factors including the patients age, skin condition, lifestyle and even how much they use their lips!
Which Lip Filler Costs More: Restylane or Juvéderm?
Like any cosmetic procedure, the cost of lip fillers will vary according to the skill and experience of the medical provider, your location, the facial area(s) being treated, and the amount of product used. However – in general – Juvéderm typically costs slightly less than Restylane when compared unit for unit.
So when it comes to Juvéderm Volbella vs Restylane Silk, Volbella may be the better “value” since it can last up to twice as long. However, when comparing Restylane Kysse with Juvéderm Ultra, many patients are willing to pay a little bit more for Kysse’s softness and flexibility.
