Hair Loss Treatments that Work: PRP & Stem Cell Injection
Hair Loss Treatments that Work: PRP & Stem Cell Injection.
If you are suffering from hair loss – whether you are a man or a woman – it has probably dealt a devastating blow to your self-confidence. And, if you are like most people trying to regrow hair, you may have also tried countless “over the counter” hair regrowth products without much luck.
The good news is that two new, non-surgical, hair restoration treatments are now available that actually work to stop hair loss and regrow hair. These treatments are Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections and Stem Cell Injections. As leaders in medical hair loss treatments, we offer both PRP and Stem Cell hair regrowth at our NYC dermatology practice.
For some people, hair growth supplements, hair regrowth shampoos, and even laser light devices may not be sufficient to regrow hair. While Rogaine (Minoxidil) is beneficial for some people, it does not work on all types or locations of hair loss. And oral medications, such as Propecia, can have serious side effects, including killing your sex drive, ejaculation disorders, breast tenderness, and other complications.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections and Stem Cell Injections are state-of-the-art hair loss treatments that actually work, without surgery, without needing daily medications or creams, and without dangerous side effects.
How Stem Cell Hair Loss Treatments Work
The process of hair loss is basically twofold. Decreased blood supply to the hair follicles – medically called “ischemia” – is the first factor in hair loss. It can result from aging, genetics, or even certain autoimmune diseases. Inflammation is the second factor involved in hair loss. Inflammation alters the normal growth processes of the follicles, also causing hair growth to stop.
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), however, can grow several types of cells in the body. Additionally, Mesenchymal stem cells have a very strong anti-inflammatory effect. And body fat (“adipose”) is a rich source of these versatile MSCs!
During stem cell hair loss treatment at our NYC office, Mesenchymal stem cells are cultivated from the patient’s own body fat. Then they are injected into the scalp to regenerate hair by “angiogenesis” – which is the medical term for regrowing blood vessels.
How PRP Hair Loss Treatments Work
Platelets are a type of blood cell that contain the growth factors responsible for the body’s rejuvenation and healing processes.
During Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments, a small amount (approximately 25 ccs) of the patient’s own blood is collected, and then separated using a centrifuge. The platelets are collected, creating a concentration called “Platelet Rich Plasma” which is up to 8 times more concentrated than normal blood. Increasing the concentration of platelets by 400% also increases the concentration of the growth factors.
During the PRP hair loss treatments offered at our NYC office, the patient’s own concentrated plasma is injected into the scalp. This stimulates the stem cells in the hair follicles, causing them to make more hairs per follicle, as well as thicker hairs in each follicle.
NYC PRP and Stem Cell Hair Loss Treatment
Each individual’s hair loss is different. So PRP will work better for some patients, while stem cell treatments may work better for others. Or a combination of both may be most effective.
At our NYC dermatology practice, our experienced hair loss treatment doctors offer both Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Stem Cell treatments.
We are one of only a few medical practices in NYC, or anywhere in New York, New Jersey or on the East Coast offering these innovative and highly effective new hair loss treatments. Call us today and schedule an appointment to see if PRP or Stem Cell hair loss treatments are right for you.
