Microneedling with Eclipse MicroPen
Micro-needling is performed using the Eclipse MicroPen, a cordless device with a microneedle tip and a high-speed motor. The cluster of sterile fine needles at the tip creates micro-perforations in the skin, prompting the body to produce collagen and elastin, substances that aids the skin’s rejuvenation process.
During the treatments session, Dr. Goldenberg will first apply a mildly naming lubricating gel to the surface of the skin to help the MicroPen move across the skin and minimize discomfort. Dr. Goldenberg will gently press the Eclipse MicroPen’s tip onto the skin and glide the device over the treatment area. As the MicroPen punctures the skin, the patient may feel a light “sandpaper” sensation. Generally, treatments are well-tolerated.
For enhanced results, microneedling can be combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP). During this treatment, PRP is used instead of a lubricating gel. PRP enhances the treatment and helps stimulate collagen growth and skin recovery.
MicroPen Results and Recovery
Dr. Goldenberg will tailor the treatment to a patient’s specific needs and aesthetic goals. In some cases, deeper penetration may necessary to effectively treat more damaged skin. After a treatment, patients can return to their normal activity—little or no downtime is needed. Most patients see improvement in 4 weeks.
Although a single Eclipse MicroPen treatment typically produces visible results, multiple sessions may be required to improve results in individuals with severe scarring. However, results are enduring and patients can look forward to noticeably smoother skin. The best results are seen when patients combine microneedling with PRP treatments. PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma treatments are performed using the Eclipse PRP HC system. Learn more on our PRP page.
Ideal Candidates for Microneedling Treatments
Microneedling is safe and effective option for most patients who would like to address moderate signs of aging and/or the refine surface of their skin. Unlike other skin resurfacing techniques, the Eclipse MicroPen can be used on all skin types, including darker skin. Micro-needling can treat of range of skin imperfections, such as:
- Small, thin lines around the eyes (crow’s feet)
- Vertical lines around the mouth (smoker’s lines)
- Pitted and rolling acne scars
- Chickenpox scars
After a treatment, the skin will have a renewed appearance and a smoother overall texture.
