What You Need to Know About Juvederm
What You Need to Know About Juvederm –
Juvéderm is one of the most highly-requested injectable dermal fillers at our NYC dermatology practice. This is because Juvéderm fills lines and restores volume to the face – delivering the most beautiful, natural-looking, and long-lasting results.
In this article, board-certified NYC dermatologist Gary Goldenberg discusses everything there is to know about Juvéderm.
How Juvéderm Works:
Juvéderm is an FDA approved treatment capable of providing fuller lips, adding volume to the cheeks, and softening moderate to severe facial lines, wrinkles and folds in the face, especially around the nose and mouth.
Juvéderm is composed of a substance called hyaluronic acid – which occurs naturally within the skin to keep it smooth and “plump”. As a person gets older, their skin’s hyaluronic acid levels can decrease by a significant margin, which leads to both wrinkling and loss of volume.
The body’s diminished supply of hyaluronic acid is one of the biggest factors contributing towards looking older. But, thanks to Juvéderm, our NYC patients can replace hyaluronic acid to restore their faces to the healthy, happy, and refreshed appearance of their youth.
Where Juvéderm Can be Injected
Age-related loss of volume tends to occur most intensely in the cheeks, lips, and temple. For this reason, these Juvéderm treatment areas are among the most frequently chosen by patients at our NYC area practice.
Smile lines (also known as nasolabial folds) may also be effectively treated with Juvéderm. Juvéderm may also be injected at the corners of the mouth, as well as at the “marionette lines” (the creases running on either side of the mouth) and “smokers lines” (vertical lines above and below lips).
Types of Juvéderm Products
At Goldenberg Dermatology in NYC, we offer our patients a variety of different Juvéderm products, each of which is designed to address its own unique skin concerns.
To soften and/or add volume to parentheses lines around the nose and mouth, patients should consider Juvéderm XC and Juvéderm Vollure XC, which can last up to a year and a half. To add volume to the cheeks and temples, on the other hand, patients may choose Juvéderm Voluma XC. This particular Juvéderm product is known to last up to two full years.
Juvéderm Volbella XC is available for treating under-eye bags, as well as fine lines around the eyes and vertical lip lines. We also offer Juvéderm Ultra XC, capable of smoothing out parentheses lines, as well as adding volume to the lips and nose.
The Juvéderm Treatment
Depending on factors such as product type and treatment area, Juvéderm dermal fillers can take as little as fifteen minutes to administer, and usually no longer than an hour.
Though Juvéderm patients do not require anesthetic, topical anesthetic is made available to increase the level of comfort experienced during treatment. All Juvéderm XC products also include anesthetic right in the formula for a comfortable injection experience.
After the Juvéderm dermal filler has been injected, the treatment area will typically be given a gentle massage to smooth out the product, after which it is then soothed with ice. There is no “downtime” after receiving Juvéderm, and patients will be given a list of instructions to follow (such as not touching the injection area) following the appointment.
