How to prevent wrinkles BEFORE they happen!

One of the most common questions patients ask me is how to prevent wrinkles. Of course, it’s better to prevent than to treat, so I love this questions.

There are two important ingredients here: sunscreen and toxins!

Sunscreen is the cheapest and most effective anti aging treatment. Sun’s damaging rays cause hyperpigmentation, blemishes, skin cancer and other growths, and wrinkles and lines. Sun damage also causes the skin to look loose and sullen. Therefore, sun avoidance and protection is very important. I recommend all my patients to use sunscreen on a daily bases. It should be part of your routine, like brushing your teeth. Apply a moisturizer with SPF30 or higher sunscreen every morning to your face and other sun exposed areas, such as your neck and hands. This will help to prevent wrinkles and lines and skin cancer. Trust me, your skin will thank you!

The other important aspect of wrinkle prevention, is using a toxin like botox, disport or xeomin, to prevent dymanic wrinkles (those that occur from muscle movement) before they become permanent. An example of this is smile lines around the eyes or frown lines on the forehead. By preventing muscle movement in these areas, we can prevent wrinkling from ever occurring. In fact, this is one of my favorite treatments for young patients who are interested in wrinkle prevention.
